Our Faith and Core Beliefs

Here, you’ll discover the core values and beliefs that define North Texas Church of Christ.

This statement of faith does not encompass all our beliefs. We consider the Bible—God’s inspired, infallible Word—to be the ultimate authority on truth, morality, and right conduct. Therefore, it serves as our sole and final source of belief. For matters of faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline within the North Texas Church of Christ, our elders hold the final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God.
The sixty-six books of Scripture form God’s complete, final, trustworthy, and authoritative revelation to humankind. While traditions, creeds, and other writings can help us gain a deeper understanding, nothing is elevated to the authority of Scripture.
(2 Timothy 3:16; 2 Peter 1:20–21)

We believe in one true, eternal God, the Creator of all life, equally existing in three Persons: God the Father, God the Son (Jesus Christ), and God the Holy Spirit.
In His very nature, God is love, and He created us for a relationship with Him. Throughout history, He has revealed Himself in various ways, yet His most profound revelation occurred when He sent part of Himself to earth, taking on human form.

(Genesis 1:26–27; Job 38:1–41:34; John 3:16; Romans 1:19–20; 2 Corinthians 13:14; Ephesians 4:6; Isaiah 44:6; John 1:1, 14)

We believe that Jesus Christ is the one and only Son of God, coequal with God the Father and God the Spirit.
He became flesh (incarnate) as part of God’s redemptive plan, was crucified, and rose bodily from the grave three days later. He then ascended into heaven as our mediating High Priest. One day, He will return in final judgment and to fully redeem His people.

(Colossians 2:9; Philippians 2:5–9; Hebrews 1:3; Hebrews 4:14)

We believe that the Holy Spirit coexists with God the Father and God the Son.
He is given to Christians at baptism, dwelling within them as a guarantee of Jesus’ return. The Holy Spirit’s role is to help and guide believers in sanctification (holiness).

(John 14:16–17; Romans 8; Ephesians 1:13–14; Galatians 5:16–26)

We believe that God beautifully and unchangeably creates each person as male or female, and that these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect His image and nature.
Any rejection of one’s biological gender is considered a rejection of God’s image in that person.

(Psalm 139; Genesis 1:26–27)

We believe that every human life is sacred and created in God’s image.
From the unborn to the elderly, from the physically or mentally challenged to every other state or condition, all life—beginning at conception and ending at natural death—holds immeasurable worth. Therefore, we are called to defend, protect, and value all human life.

(Psalm 139)

We believe that all humankind who reach an age of moral understanding have sinned and fallen short of God’s holy standard.
Because of our sin, we face the consequence of death. However, God, in His infinite love and mercy, met the demands of justice by sending His Son as the ultimate sacrifice.

(Romans 3:23; Romans 6:23; 2 Corinthians 5:21)

We believe that salvation comes by grace through faith in the gospel.
God demonstrated His grace through Jesus’ death, burial, and resurrection. This message calls us to believe in the gospel’s power to save, turn from our sins, confess Jesus as Lord, and be immersed in water (baptized), reenacting Christ’s death, burial, and resurrection. In Acts 2, we see how this message was first preached and how people responded to it.

(1 Corinthians 15:1–4; Romans 6:1–6; Acts 2; Galatians 3:26–27; Acts 2:38; 1 Peter 3:21)

We believe that those who are saved make up God’s universal family, called the church.
While on earth, Jesus declared He would build His church—a gathering of believers saved by faith. When a person is born again, they become part of this unique “called-out” community.

(Matthew 16:16; Ephesians 3:14–21)

We believe that Jesus will return one day.
In the meantime, we wait eagerly for His triumphant return. When He comes, all of God’s people—both living and deceased—will be gloriously transformed.

(1 Thessalonians 4:13–18; 1 Peter 1:3–5; 1 Corinthians 15:51–54)

We believe God has ordained marriage as a covenant relationship between a biological man, a biological woman, and Himself.
The Church will only recognize marriages between a biological man and a biological woman. Furthermore, our elders, ministers, staff, and members will only participate in or solemnize weddings under this definition, and our facilities and property will host only such weddings.

(Genesis 2:21–25; Ephesians 5:22–33)

We believe that God creates each person wonderfully and unchangeably as male or female.
These two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God (Genesis 1:26–27). Rejecting one’s biological sex is a rejection of God’s image within that person.

We believe that “marriage” is defined solely as the union of one biological man and one biological woman in a single, exclusive relationship, as outlined in Scripture (Genesis 2:18–25). God intends sexual intimacy to be experienced only within this union of marriage (1 Corinthians 6:18; 7:2–5; Hebrews 13:4).

We believe that God offers redemption and restoration to all who confess and turn away from sin, seeking His mercy and forgiveness through Jesus Christ.
(Acts 3:19–21; Romans 10:9–10; 1 Corinthians 6:9–11).

We believe that every person is worthy of compassion, love, kindness, respect, and dignity (Mark 12:28–31; Luke 6:31). Hateful or harassing behavior or attitudes toward anyone are not in accordance with Scripture or the doctrines of the church and are to be repudiated.
